Chordate updates on patient study: last patient to start treatment during Q1-2022

The last patient in the study on migraine carried out in Germany and Finland is expected to start treatment during the first quarter of 2022, according to the management of the Finnish part of the study. This after Finland eased pandemic restrictions and the clinics now considers themselves in a position to assess the final phase of recruitment. The clinics' recruitment activities receive positive responses, and the forecast is that this time frame can be met.

The main purpose of the patient study, which began in 2018, was to enable a CE marking of the company's preventive treatment of chronic migraine. As Chordate received the CE marking on interim data in May 2021, the purpose is fulfilled, however, a positive result from the patient study is still extremely important for continued marketing activities. The goal is to get a scientific article published. The article is expected to be completed and submitted for scientific review during the third quarter of 2022.

The international patient study on the patented treatment method K.O.S for chronic migraine began in 2018. The study, which is being carried out at nine clinics in Germany and Finland, was suspended due to the covid-19 pandemic in 2020 but has been resumed in stages from the beginning of 2021, completely due to the development of the pandemic.

Independent scientific article published on the K.O.S treatment for rhinitis

A clinical study conducted by a group of Italian researchers on K.O.S treatment for rhinitis from Chordate Medical Holding AB (publ) ("Chordate") has resulted in a published article in the scientific journal American Journal of Surgery and Clinical Case Reports. The research group is completely independent in relation to Chordate, and the study was initiated and funded internally.

The study, an open comparative observational study, was conducted between December 2018 and July 2020 with a total of 80 patients aged 18-87 years evenly distributed between women and men. Patients were divided into two equal groups, one of which was treated with one (1) K.O.S. treatment, and the control group was treated with standard nasal spray (mometasone furoate, eg Nasonex®).

The study measured outcomes from a) rhinomanometry that measures airflow resistance, b) odor test for odor ability, c) mucus transport ability, d) two different estimation scales for quality of life related to breathability (SNOT-22 and I-NOSE).

The measurements were made partly before the first treatment, partly 45 days after K.O.S treatment – respectively start in the study for the control group.

The results of the study showed significant improvements in the K.O.S group, and also in comparison with the control group, between the start of the study and the last measurement. Several important measurement results and comparisons showed significant differences.

The study can be read in its entirety here: https://www.ajsccr.org/article-details.php?tit=AJSCCR-v4-1670

The article's conclusion reads:
K.O.S treatment is a safe and mini-invasive procedure for the treatment of NAR symptoms, well accepted from the patients and with a promising improvement of QoL, as assessed with the improvement of I-NOSE and SNOT-22 score after the K.O.S application on patients. The procedure can be administered on an outpatient basis without the need for general/local anesthesia or any premedication and it presents an efficacy almost comparable to that of conventional medical therapy.

"It is very gratifying that there are research results that have been initiated and funded completely without our participation or knowledge. In this case, it is particularly exciting to read about a study that includes patients who are far much older than 65 years and who report such positive improvements in quality of life. As far as we know, this is also the first time someone has studied the effects on the sense of smell – and with such positive results", says Anders Weilandt, CEO of Chordate.

The first insurance-reimbursed K.O.S treatment carried out in Saudi Arabia

Chordate Medical Holding AB (publ) ("Chordate") announces that the first privately insured chronic rhinitis patient in Saudi Arabia has now been treated with the company's K.O.S treatment. This is the first time that the K.O.S treatment has been reimbursed by the health insurance company BUPA ARABIA in Saudi Arabia. The announcement means that all private hospitals and clinics in Saudi Arabia that have access to the code nationally can start treating patients who have been waiting.

"The result of this extensive project to establish sales on the private side and finally get the confirmation that the first treatment has been reimbursed, is a very important milestone for Chordate and for our hard-working distribution partner in Saudi Arabia. This is very satisfying", says Anders Weilandt, CEO of Chordate.

As the company announced in November 2020, private health insurance companies in Saudi Arabia approved the insurance code that can be used by private care providers in the country when treating with K.O.S for chronic rhinitis. Now, the first insurance-reimbursed K.O.S treatment has been completed.

"One of our strategic goals is to prove the market opportunity in well-selected markets to enable expansion and growth and to be able to attract buyers of the company. Saudi Arabia is one of the markets selected and the news that the first privately insured patient now has been treated with K.O.S is a major step towards that goal."

Chordate Medical signs new joint venture agreement with Nanos Medical in Shanghai

Chordate Medical (publ) ("Chordate" or "the Company") and the Chinese medtech company Nanos Medical have entered into a renewed joint venture agreement governing the cooperation of the jointly owned company Changyong Medical Technology Co. which will market Chordate's treatment method for rhinitis, chronic nasal congestion, in the Chinese market. Nanos Medical, which invests all working capital in the jointly owned company, estimates the schedule for obtaining the market license to be at least 16 months.

Chordate and Nanos Medical started a joint venture in 2018 and then formed a jointly owned company in Shanghai with the intention of marketing the K.O.S technology in the Chinese market. Nanos Medical owns 2/3 of this company, Changyong Medical Technology Co., and is the party that finances marketing and sales, Chordate will for its 1/3 submit the Chinese patents when product registration is in place.

In August, Chordate received a prepaid order for two new-generation K.O.S. machines which has since been delivered to Changyong Medical Technology Co. Ltd. The K.O.S machines are used in the work to obtain a national market permit for Chordate's technology for rhinitis treatment. The registration work is ongoing.

"This means that we still have a capital-strong partner in China who believes in and invests in the K.O.S treatment for rhinitis. Nanos Medical is said to be the Number One actor on the Ear/Nose/Throat-market in China", says Anders Weilandt, CEO of Chordate Medical.

Chordate Medical Holding AB (Publ.) launches pre-study for FDA market approval in the United States

Chordate Medical has made a strategic decision to initiate a pre-study to apply for marketing authorization for the K.O.S treatment for chronic migraine with the US Food and Drug Administration, FDA. The work is carried out in collaboration with a reputable American consulting company. The pre-study will begin immediately and can be expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2022, when a decision on the choice of strategy can be made.

Chordate's initial analysis indicates that this is a so-called DeNovo application, and the company has focused the project on tentatively moving forward to the submission of a complete application during the second half of 2022.

"As a natural step after the CE mark came into place in May earlier this year, we now want to move forward with market permits in the US as well. This is a longer project, but an important step to take in the strategy of building company value. This ambition to procure a US market permit does not mean that we have changed the model on how we build our proof of market. However, our assessment is that an approved DeNovo application in the long run gives us a broader set of options and makes Chordate more interesting for the medtech industry in general", says Anders Weilandt, CEO of Chordate.

"The project is to first carry out a pre-study to select the appropriate strategy, then a pre-submission step to understand the perspective of the FDA on a tentative submission, and finally the formal application. An important issue is to find out what level of scientific evidence the FDA wants to see in an application for acceptance. This will take time and need a clear focus on our part."
